We are pleased to advise that with the direction of the Board and Officers, we are moving forward with several track improvement projects. This week we received four new foam barriers to protect the ends of the straight-away. We will no longer need to move barriers based on race and practice direction. Repairs have been made to the septic system, and five new power flush toilets have been installed. This was a major upgrade and will be functional for Sunday’s Spring Race 3. The contract has been approved for re-grading of the area between the Club House and first pit runner, the area between runners and between the second runner and property line. The grading will include installation of drainage, compaction of the area and a new surface. The metal shed and well pump house will be removed to allow better access and more parking. This work will begin on Monday, March 8. A new aluminum bleacher system has been ordered and will be installed as part of the grading process. The new state of the art bleacher will seat 90 people and is properly fitted with guard rails. We came in under budget for this work and plan to start the process of installing a bleacher cover, once everything is in place. We have also been reviewing several proposals regarding electrical. We will receive an electrician prepared cost estimate for major electrical renovation on Monday. All of this work is planned for completion by Spring Race 4.
If you have not been behind the scenes in the Club House and Control Tower, check out the new furniture, the tower workstation and computer hardware. GCKI is on the move, renovating and upgrading the track for the enjoyment of the members and their families.

Joe Dunlap Memorial Race - A HUGE Success! |
Tuesday, 02 February 2010 08:31 |
The first race of the 2010 GCKI Sprng Series was held on February 7th and was dedicated to Joe Dunlap in recognition of his volunteering to the GCKI club for almost 40 years. Joe was instrumental in getting the club started and wholeheartedly supported it, helping it grow to where it is today. Joe passed away earlier in 2010 and racers were invited to attend to honor Joe and celebrate his life and contributions to our club.
THANKS TO ALL OUR RACERS, we had a phenomenal turnout! It was a cloudy and windy day with a high temperature of 52 degrees. It was also Super Bowl Sunday. None of that stopped the racers from showing up at the track. We had a total of 63 race entries - ranging from age 5 to 79! It was a great day for racing and showing your support of our club.
We look forward to holding the Joe Dunlap Memorial Race as our first race of our Spring Series annually. Thanks to Joe and his family for providing such a great venue for all of us to share!
