We are pleased to advise that with the direction of the Board and Officers, we are moving forward with several track improvement projects. This week we received four new foam barriers to protect the ends of the straight-away.  We will no longer need to move barriers based on race and practice direction. Repairs have been made to the septic system, and five new power flush toilets have been installed. This was a major upgrade and will be functional for Sunday’s Spring Race 3. The contract has been approved for re-grading of the area between the Club House and first pit runner, the area between runners and between the second runner and property line. The grading will include installation of drainage, compaction of the area and a new surface. The metal shed and well pump house will be removed to allow better access and more parking. This work will begin on Monday, March 8.  A new aluminum bleacher system has been ordered and will be installed as part of the grading process. The new state of the art bleacher will seat 90 people and is properly fitted with guard rails. We came in under budget for this work and plan to start the process of installing a bleacher cover, once everything is in place. We have also been reviewing several proposals regarding electrical. We will receive an electrician prepared cost estimate for major electrical renovation on Monday. All of this work is planned for completion by Spring Race 4.
If you have not been behind the scenes in the Club House and Control Tower, check out the new furniture, the tower workstation and computer hardware. GCKI is on the move, renovating and upgrading the track for the enjoyment of the members and their families.

The first race of the 2010 GCKI Sprng Series was held on February 7th and was dedicated to Joe Dunlap in recognition of his volunteering to the GCKI club for almost 40 years.  Joe was instrumental in getting the club started and wholeheartedly supported it, helping it grow to where it is today.  Joe passed away earlier in 2010 and racers were invited to attend to honor Joe and celebrate his life and contributions to our club. Â
THANKS TO ALL OUR RACERS,  we had a phenomenal turnout!  It was a cloudy and windy day with a high temperature of 52 degrees.  It was also Super Bowl Sunday.  None of that stopped the racers from showing up at the track.  We had a total of 63 race entries - ranging from age 5 to 79!  It was a great day for racing and showing your support of our club. Â
We look forward to holding the Joe Dunlap Memorial Race as our first race of our Spring Series annually.  Thanks to Joe and his family for providing such a great venue for all of us to share!

and we will strive to resolve them as quickly and fairly as possible. These results should be consistent with GCKI’s competition rules – That is, it is a best 5 races out of 7 series. You must have competed in at least 4 races to qualify for a year-end trophy. The dark highlighted 1st, 2nd and 3rd , where applicable, represent the trophies that will be awarded at the year-end banquet. These tallies shall remain unofficial until the end of December at which point no further changes will be made and trophies will be ordered for the banquet. The points were computed following the requirement that racers be members in good standing to earn points and qualify for year-end awards. Congratulations to all of our competitors and we look forward to seeing you all at the banquet and awards ceremony.

Saturday, July 11, was a members meeting and track work day. There was a light turnout of members, but with determination and lots of teamwork, the work got done in near 100 degree temperatures.  The work day was primarily scheduled to prepare for the SWRC that will be held this coming weekend, as well as to make overall improvements to your club. When you see the new pillow barriers, leveled ground, new flag stand, signs, general clubhouse cleaning, and many other improvements, you can personally thank those people listed below who put in their time and energy to complete the jobs that needed to be done.   They were: Ashley Bartos, John Bartos, Zach Berger, Scott Boone, Bill Choice, Will Choice, Mike Hewitt, Max Hewitt, Paul Jones, Bryan Joplin, Jan Joplin, Gary Kincade, KJ Kreiter, David McKee and Brian Traw.  Thanks for your hard work – the track looks great! |

It was agreed to during the July 11th member's meeting that we will change up the racing direction during the fall series. The first race, the SWRC and all Odd-Numbered races will be conducted in the traditional CLOCKWISE direction. Beginning with the race after SWRC, Fall Race 2 - we will conduct all even numbered races in the COUNTER CLOCKWISE direction.
We will update the race schedule accordingly.
We plan to purchase two signs that will be hung on the fence to alert people practicing what the direction for the next racing event shall be - so that there is minimal conflict and confusion for those who show up to the track on practice days.
Fall Race 1 - 7/12/09 - CLOCKWISE SWRC Races 7&8 - 7/25 & 26/09 - CLOCKWISE Fall Race 2 - 8/9/09 - COUNTER CLOCKWISE Fall Race 3 - 9/20/09 - CLOCKWISE Fall Race 4- 10/04/09 - COUNTER CLOCKWISE Fall Race 5- 10/18/09 - CLOCKWISE Fall Race 6 - 11/1/09 - COUNTER CLOCKWISE Fall Race 7 - 11/15/09 - CLOCKWISE
Direction On Practice Days Course direction for practice will change immediately afer an event & practice direction will be the same as the upcoming event. Please practice in the direction of the upcoming event on practice days to keep practice safe for everyone, thank you for your cooperation. |

with the following details: Â Your name and phone number; item #, quantity & size (if applicable) of each item you wish to purchase. The order will be placed on July 2nd, so time is of the essence. Â I will order extra hats and aprons, however, if you want shirts, please let me know prior to July 1st so it gets on the order, as it's difficult to order extra sizes for everyone and then have the wrong sizes sitting in inventory. Payment will be due when items are picked up. Â Item price is total price, tax included. Â We are hoping to have these items by the July 12th race, but that might not be possible with our suppliers lead time. Â We will have them before the SWRC race and would encourage all of you to wear them during that weekend. Â If you have questions, please email me and I will do my best to answer them quickly. Â THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR PATIENCE and your timeliness in ordering.

Changes are occurring in Membership and Accounting. Bill and Becky Choice have been working diligently to rework and streamline our accounting system. They converted the books from Peachtree to Quickbooks and have been working very hard to get everything up to date. The books for the GCKI fiscal year 2009 are now up and running and Bill is working very hard to simplify our processes. For example this Sunday, credit cards will be swiped during registration processed immediately. We have purchased an air card for GCKI and we will be able to process payments, update mylaps, check the weather, and even go LIVE using our timing system if we want. Bill and Becky have spent tremendous numbers of hours working on all of this and our GCKI members and racers owe them a huge Thank You. |

As memberships have been coming in Bill Choice is now processing the payments then coordinating with Marcia and John Bartos to process membership cards. Separating membership processing from accounting has created some challenges but the Choices and the Bartos have worked through these issue and membership should be up to date now. WE fully expect that going forward, membership processing will meet all our expectations. John and Marcia are also reworking the point system with our web developer to streamline the processing of points. Our ultimate goal is to have the points updated to the website before we all go home on race day. This will be very cool for the racers. Thank you John and Marcia for all the hard work.! |

GCKI is very fortunate to have Bridgestone as a sponsor for 2009. The manufacturer has donated tires to the club, banners and promotions for our track and misc items for our year end banquet. This is the first year that GCKI has actively pusued sponsorships from tire manufacturers and we are very pleased with the results of our efforts. All classes at GCKI will run the YHC / YKC tire compound this year with the exception of Rotax classes. Rotax running in the TAG classes will be expected to run YHC / YKC tires.
