Chonda Cadet racers Ashley Bartos and Rylan Ritch
Spring Race 4 saw the first-ever race of CHONDA Cadets at Gulf Coast Karters.  Following on the success of the CHONDA senior classes at GCKI, rules were instituted allowing 8 to 12 year olds to compete in their own class.  On Sunday March 20th, newcomer Rylan Ritch and Rotax “veteran” Ashley Bartos took to the course in their 4-stroke karts.  With the recording of 49 second lap times the new class appears to be successful in bridging the wide performance gap between the current kid-kart and 2-stroke cadet classes.  Even more importantly, the formula of using low priced Harbor Freight engines means that karting can be within reach of budget-minded young competitors.  We are hopeful to double the size of the field as early as Spring Race 5, and look forward to this class growing at the same fast pace as the CHONDA class has over the past year.  For more information, please contact any of the GCKI officers.  We’ll be glad to assist anyone interested in racing obtain more information about this or any other current class racing at GCKI.
