Freeburn Track Repair has completed all work on the track and it is now open for practice! Thank you for your patience while we made these improvements to our facillity.
Bryan Joplin ventured out to the GCKI facility this week to review the work being performed by one of the top-ranked racing-surface maintenance professionals in the United States. Charlie Freeburn of Freeburn Track Repair has been contracted by GCKI to grind uneven areas, fill cracks, and smooth surfaces. These photos show the dramatic transformation that is taking place. The facility will be open this weekend for practice (note that due to grinding, the dust levels will be high and adhesion will be less than optimal.) Work will recommence on Monday and continue until completed. The newly elected leadership team of GCKI is working hard to reinvest the members' dues and race fees to make the 2014 season one of our best ever!

The track will be closed for repairs and maintenance to smooth out some bumps and fill cracks from Monday January 13th through Friday January 17th, it will be open for the weekend of Saturday January 18th and Sunday January 19th and will close again Monday January 20th through Friday January 24th. The repairs are expected to be completed, weather permitting, by Friday January 24th in time for the January 25 and 26th weekend.
We apologize for the late notice but Freeburn Track Repair is in the area and after inspection of the track announced they could fit our repairs into their schedule over the next couple of weeks.
With a successful 2013 season completed (and a celebration of our champions yet to come at the awards banquet on January 25th), it is time to look forward to what is shaping up to be a very exciting 2014 season of kart racing at Gulf Coast Karters in Katy, Tx. We had record participation in the 2013 race season, and the club stands at all-time record membership. These statistics combined with the support of long-time as well as new members of the club will make 2014 the best year yet in the long history of GCKI.
2014 GCKI General Membership MeetingOn Wednesday evening January 8th GCKI held its annual all-members meeting at the Memorial West Community Club. The facility, arranged and hosted by Becky and Bill Choice, continues to serve as an excellent venue for this important event. We had an excellent turnout of members representing all of the classes raced at GCKI. The topics were discussed positively and decisions were reached that will shape the club and form the basis of our operations for the next year.
Finances for 2013 were reviewed in detail. With record racing participation in 2013 as well as the club setting new records for membership, the financial picture of the club is very strong. As a result the club will be reinvesting those funds into strategic facility improvements that will greatly enhance everyone's enjoyment at the track.
The attached file contains the fastest recorded lap times at GCKI in 2013 as achieved by GCKI members-in-good-standing during an official GCKI karting event as recorded by our timing and scoring system. Please note that despite our high-tech timing system, this remains a very manual process whereby each and every session for every class during the year must be manually reviewed. Many thanks to Marcia Bartos for performing this painstaking task. Despite our best efforts - it is still possible that one time could have been overlooked. As racers its expected that you know your best times better than anyone. If a discrepancy is identified, please alert John Bartos at This email address is being protected from spambots. Congratulations to all of these competitors for their achievements in 2013.
