A great time was had by all at the GCKI 2011 Year End Awards Banquet held Saturday night Jan 21st at Dave & Busters.
Congratulations to all the class winners. Here are a few photos from the event.
As a way of getting Gulf Coast Karter’s name out in the local auto-enthusiast community, GCKI will be represented at this weekend’s Coffee & Cars event. Bryan Joplin has volunteered to make the trek with his trailer and his representative classes of karts (arriving for set-up at 6:00am!) Please come out to enjoy the morning, and offer words of thanks to Bryan, and possibly lend some of your own expertise and enthusiasm about karting to helping attract more members to our club.
About Houston Coffee & Cars http://coffeeandcarshouston.com/
Houston Coffee & Cars, the gathering that started as a vision to have automotive enthusiasts who own and drive rare machines share their passion with others while enjoying a cup of coffee the first Saturday morning of every month, quickly turned into one of the country’s top automotive gatherings and has become what it is today. The founder, who after transferring to Houston from Los Angeles noticed a missing connection in the local automotive scene and what started as just a gathering of no more than 10 cars that included machines from the Ferrari and Lamborghini clubs as well as beautiful classic machines now hosts a phenomenal collection of machines and gathers automotive enthusiasts of all ages.
The event takes place the first Saturday of every month from 8:00 a.m. until 10 a.m. The location is at the Vintage Park shopping village in North Houston.
The 2012 all-member meeting had excellent attendance, and was well-represented by longtime as well as new members covering a wide cross-section of karting interests. A full newsletter detailing all of the important decisions will follow shortly. However, publishing the 2012 season is foremost of importance.
The 2012 Spring Season gets into gear with a Saturday race on February 4th (thus avoiding any conflict with this year's Superbowl.) We will resume our customary Sunday schedule beginning with race 2 and continue throughout the rest of the season. Both our Spring and Fall Series have been expanded to 8 races each, to give our members as much racing opportunity as possible. Both series will be a best-of-six (minimum five races to qualify) points championship. All races will be single-points events.
Gulf Coast Karters will be hosting it's very popular Winter Blast race again for 2012. This will be a “fun” race intended for everyone to come out and shake a little bit of the winter cabin fever and tune up for the coming race season. It will be a race-for-honor with certificates awarded to each class’ top three finishers (and all participants in kid karts.)
This race will also serve as a fund-raiser for GCKI to kick off the 2012 in a positive way. Track worker volunteers are being sought to offset the cost to host the race. All workers will immediately gain 110 worker points applicable towards the spring 2012 season – positions for corner workers, grid and scales are open. Racing friend from neighboring tracks are welcome, and all racers on this day will pay GCKI member entry fees (a substantial discount form non-member race fees.)
Due to the possibility of inclement weather the following conditions are in effect to ensure the safety and comfort of all involved. The Winter Blast will not be conducted as a “Rain Race.” The Winter Blast will only be held if race day temperature exceeds 45 degrees F by 11:00am on race day. We hope to see a big field turn out for the fun and competition.
